Currently I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota enjoying big city life. (eg. nightlife, great vegetarian/vegan options for foods, meeting interesting people ensuing these ventures, etc) Since coming here, I've gotten some great inspiration for ideas as far as my upcoming gallery opening is concerned. Here's what I'm thinking:
- 1950's suburban life-style stereotypical images as a base
- black and white paintings of the idea
- small objects or subtleties hidden in plain sight in the paintings
- color highlights the objects and the face as a connection, but very very subtle colors
- recently founded, needlepoint works for a more wide variety of medium usage?
- transferred image print-collages smaller in size for more affordable sales
(A tid bit about this gallery opportunity. One Girl's Treasure, my place of employment, are soon to have gallery openings and I've been asked to have one of my own. Works will be up for approximately 2 months and a one night opening will take place with reception in the store.)
On another note. The needlepoint idea stems from a wonderful Wednesday night here in Minneapolis. After a bar's pitcher of beer, some lovely anarchists decided to make conversation with us thinking we were très intèresant (perhaps had a few themselves) and invited us over to their "squid house". (Where the existance of a giant hand-made squid that fit in two rooms took place) On the wall there was this beautiful needlepoint work stretched on stretchers. The conversation came about that they were to move, and if we wanted anything, just ask, and it perhaps could be ours. The giant squid was not for dibs, however this beautiful work was. I now am the proud owner. It simply sparked the idea that I could involve myself with this needlepoint idea and incorporate it into my works and especially my recent 1950's endeavor.
Anyways. That's about the extent of what I have artistically been milling around in. I took this beautiful trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan as well. (previous week) So much nature and time-traveling. Wonderful people were met, great no-where camping was forged, and a much needed break from my lonely stress was much needed. I love traveling. And I believe I would even love, if it were possible, to maybe even stay for a long period in Houghton with mister Tomnas. It was that pretty, and a month or so would be the perfect amount of visit with select civilization. I would need to leave after (needing my city-life) but it really would be a great break.

I love you, baby love!
